For the Sake of Indonesia's Booming Economy, the Government Encourages Integrated Transportation

The government emphasizes the importance of developing an integrated national transportation system. This step is considered crucial in order to achieve the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projection that Indonesia has the potential to become the 7th largest economy in the world in 2030 based on GDP based on purchasing power (PPP).

"I feel there is no other reason than for us to focus on continuing infrastructure development, supporting an increasingly efficient and integrated transportation system," said the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) while leading a coordination meeting with a number of ministries/institutions at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure office, Tuesday (1/7/2025). AHY assessed that an efficient and interconnected transportation system would be the backbone of the national movement, especially on Java Island, as the epicenter of economic growth.

To realize this vision, he encouraged the acceleration of the preparation of a number of regulations, one of which is the Draft Government Regulation (RPP) on high-speed trains. This regulation is expected to be a reference for coordination and handling of various issues in the development and operation of high-speed train projects. Not only that, he also emphasized the importance of completing the revision of the Presidential Regulation regarding high-speed trains and proposed the formation of a special task force to ensure that the implementation of the policy runs optimally in the field. As a long-term step, AHY said that the preparation of the Draft Law on the National Transportation System (RUU Sistranas) is a priority. This bill is expected to become a legal umbrella that unites transportation planning and management across modes and regions. "Of course, we need to integrate all of this, so that the planning and management of the national transportation system across modes and regions will be better in the future," concluded AHY.
