Farmers Harvest Rice, Agricultural Sector Becomes Backbone of Central Java’s Economy in Q1 2025

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, farmers in Dukuh Gatak, Sukoharjo, Central Java were seen harvesting and carrying rice crops for milling. This activity reflects the strong performance of the agricultural sector in the region during the first quarter of 2025. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Central Java's economy grew by 4.96% year-on-year (YoY) during Q1—outpacing the national growth rate, which was recorded at 4.87%. This above-average growth was largely attributed to significant gains in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, which expanded by 15.24%.

This surge in agricultural output highlights the sector's critical role as a primary driver of economic resilience in Central Java, especially amid ongoing national economic challenges. The image of farmers transporting freshly harvested rice symbolizes not only seasonal productivity but also the broader contribution of rural communities to provincial economic development. As regional economies seek stability and sustainable growth, the success of the agricultural sector in Central Java may serve as a model for other provinces aiming to strengthen food security and rural income.
