Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) has made a significant leap in global trade with the successful export of 98 tons of marine and fishery products to the United States, Thailand, and several other countries. Valued at over IDR 28 billion, the shipment—dispatched from Kendari Container Terminal—includes 42 tons of frozen octopus, 10 tons of frozen fish worth IDR 6.1 billion, and 45 tons of premium crab meat valued at IDR 21 billion. The products, shipped in five containers, represent a major milestone for the region’s fisheries sector.
Sultra’s Vice Governor, Hugua, emphasized that this international export marks a strategic move to enhance the competitiveness of local products. By prioritizing certified and sustainable goods, the province aims to meet global standards while uplifting the welfare of fishermen and local businesses. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries also lauded the achievement, highlighting the successful entry into the U.S. market as a strong indicator of quality. Acting Head of Sultra’s Marine and Fisheries Department, Sri Resqina, expressed hope that this marks the beginning of a sustainable and expansive export future, positioning Southeast Sulawesi as a key player in Eastern Indonesia’s seafood trade.
