West Java’s Exports in May 2025 Reach USD 3.3 Billion

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of West Java reported that the province’s export performance in May 2025 reached USD 3.33 billion, marking a 20.54% increase compared to April 2025. Despite the pressure from the U.S. trade tariffs under Trump’s administration, West Java continued to post a trade surplus. BPS Head Darwis Sitorus noted that this positive trend could continue with proper strategic actions, although the growth is considered seasonal from January to May 2025, cumulative exports totaled USD 15.40 billion, a 2.80% rise year-on-year, with the industrial sector dominating exports (98.61%). Key export products included vehicles (USD 3.27 billion), electrical machinery (USD 2.5 billion), and mechanical equipment (USD 1.18 billion), with top export destinations being the U.S., the Philippines, and Japan.

On the other hand, imports decreased by 0.82% monthly and 7.14% year-on-year, with total imports from January-May at USD 5.01 billion, down 2.09% from 2024. Most imports consisted of raw materials (79.94%), capital goods (11.33%), and consumer goods (8.37%). China, Japan, and South Korea were the leading sources of imports The combination of rising exports and falling imports resulted in a significant trade surplus of USD 10.39 billion for West Java, with surplus contributions mainly from the U.S., the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam—although a trade deficit was still noted with China and Taiwan.
