Deputy Minister of Trade opens opportunities for green economy cooperation with New Zealand

Indonesian Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri has opened opportunities for trade and green economy cooperation with New Zealand. In a meeting with New Zealand business actors who are members of the ASEAN-New Zealand Business Council (ANZBC) in Auckland, New Zealand, Monday (30/6), Roro said that close collaboration with partner countries that share the same views, such as New Zealand, is very important to strengthen trade relations amidst deglobalization and the current increasing trend of protectionism. "The trade and renewable energy sectors have great potential to be explored in supporting sustainable trade in the region," said Roro through an official statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 1st 2025.

Roro continued, investment opportunities in Indonesia are also growing rapidly with a spike in investment realization of 20.8% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the ANZBC stated that New Zealand is a country with excellent agricultural infrastructure. Therefore, the opportunity to export agricultural support products such as fertilizers and tires for agricultural vehicles is still very open. Likewise with cooperation to increase capacity building and farmer competitiveness. Total trade between Indonesia and New Zealand will reach USD 1.91 billion in 2024 with Indonesia's export value of USD 682 million or an increase of 15% compared to 2023; while imports will reach USD 1.23 billion or an increase of 8.97% compared to the previous year. Indonesia's main export products to New Zealand in 2024 are oil cakes, coal, and monitors and projectors. While the main imports are milk and cream, radar apparatus, and butter. Meanwhile, through the framework of the Indonesia-New Zealand Comprehensive Partnership, both countries are committed to strengthening trade relations through the 2025-2029 Action Plan. One of the main goals to be achieved by 2029 is for total bilateral trade to reach USD 3.6 billion.
