Brebes, Central Java, recorded a new history by releasing the first export of 11,800 tonnes of shallots to Malaysia. This export was carried out by the Agro Tani Makmur Indonesia Cooperative and facilitated by the Central Java Provincial Agriculture and Food Security Office and related agencies. This flagship commodity from Indonesia's largest onion farming centre marks a major step for local farmers to penetrate the global market. The shipment was made through Tanjung Emas Port, Semarang, with a transaction value of more than IDR 300 billion.
This export success is the result of cross-sectoral cooperation that consistently nurtures farmers to meet international quality standards. The Acting Governor of Central Java, Nana Sudjana, said that this export not only strengthens the local economy, but also opens up opportunities for exports of other commodities from Central Java. He hopes that the number of exports will continue to increase as the quality and quantity of regional agricultural products improve.
