On 24 June 2025, the Marine and Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency (Quality Agency of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries) shipped 98 tonnes of fishery products from Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, to the United States and Thailand markets, with an export value of around IDR 28 billion. The Head of the Quality Agency, Ishartini, stated that all products had met all export requirements, including Processing Eligibility Certification (SKP), HACCP certification, and the Quality and Safety Certificate for Fisheries Products (SMKHP). Exports of fishery products to Thailand and the United States, including frozen octopus and squid, totalled 42.4 tonnes and 10 tonnes respectively, with a combined value of IDR 6.1 billion. In addition, 45.6 tonnes of pasteurised crab meat were exported, with a combined value of IDR 21.9 billion. This initiative marks the initial phase of developing a sustainable fisheries and marine sector, which has the potential to serve as a source of high-quality exports from Indonesia's eastern regions.
The Quality Assurance Agency of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is committed to ensuring the quality and safety of fisheries products from upstream to downstream, thereby ensuring that Indonesian fisheries products meet food safety standards. During the January-May 2025 period, the Government of Southeast Sulawesi recorded foreign exchange earnings from the fisheries sector amounting to IDR 25.45 trillion. The production potential of Fisheries Management Areas 713 and 714 is estimated at 1.5 million tonnes, but the actual output is currently at 275 tonnes. Fisheries Management Area 713 covers the waters of Makassar Strait, Bone Bay, Flores Sea, and Bali Sea, while Fisheries Management Area 714 encompasses the waters of Tolo Bay and Banda Sea.
