On 29 June 2025, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, officially launched the groundbreaking ceremony for the Integrated Electric Battery Industry Ecosystem Consortium ANTAM-IBC-CBL at the Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) area in Karawang Regency, West Java. Project expenses amount to approximately IDR 100 trillion, with a projected outcome of 35,000 indirect employment opportunities and 8,000 direct positions. Bahlil is confident that the electric vehicle battery ecosystem will generate a multiplier effect on economic growth of approximately USD 40 billion per year, with a continued annual increase.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2026, with an initial capacity of 6.9 GWh per year. The second phase will involve an expansion to reach a total capacity of 15 GWh per year. Bahlil is confident that the construction of the electric vehicle battery factory will reduce fuel imports by approximately 300,000 kilolitres per year. This project is the result of a joint investment between Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend Co. Ltd. (CBL), PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM), and PT Industri Baterai Indonesia (IBC). CBL is a subsidiary of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd (CATL).
