Boosting Indonesia’s Halal Exports to Australia, Trade Ministry Partners with GAHC

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade has signed a strategic agreement with the Global Australian Halal Certification (GAHC) to strengthen the export potential of Indonesian halal products to Australia. This collaboration aims to expand market access for halal-certified products—particularly from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—which are gaining popularity not only among Muslims but also non-Muslim consumers seeking clean, safe, and healthy lifestyle options. With a Muslim population of over 800,000, Australia represents a growing market for halal goods, and Indonesia currently ranks as its 7th-largest halal product supplier. The agreement includes three key initiatives: issuing 1,000 halal certificates for export-ready MSMEs, appointing GAHC as both importer and promotional agent, and facilitating market insights for Indonesian producers regarding Australia’s halal standards and consumer trends.

Minister of Trade Budi Santoso expressed optimism that this partnership will boost Indonesia’s participation in Australia’s USD 8.13 billion halal import market, which has been growing at over 14% annually. The move also aligns with broader efforts to attract Australian buyers to the upcoming 2025 Trade Expo Indonesia and empower the Indonesian diaspora to act as importers. With global demand for halal products reaching USD 1.3 trillion in 2024, Indonesia—already a global top-10 halal exporter—seeks to further tap into this momentum. GAHC’s support in certification, product curation, and promotion will play a vital role in positioning Indonesian MSMEs as key players in the international halal market.
