At the Seafood Expo Global (SEG) 2025 international exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, the Ministry of Trade, through the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) Barcelona, recorded that tuna and other Indonesian fishery products successfully achieved potential transactions of USD 13.39 million, equivalent to IDR 220 billion. The Head of ITPC Barcelona, Sri Haryanti, has stated that this transaction demonstrates the competitiveness of Indonesian fisheries products on the global stage and strengthens the position of Indonesian fisheries products in the European Union market. Recent market trends indicate promising opportunities for Indonesian tuna in the Spanish market. Commodities such as shrimp, squid, and octopus from Indonesia are also highly sought after by local buyers in Spain. Spain's high tuna consumption makes it a promising market. A total of eight Indonesian exporters took part in the exhibition, demonstrating their readiness to penetrate the European market by meeting quality standards.
The Indonesian government is currently working to accelerate the completion of the Indonesia-EU CEPA, to provide tariff preferences for Indonesian export products, including the fisheries sector, to strengthen Indonesia's position in the highly competitive European Union market. From January to April 2025, total trade between Indonesia and Spain reached USD 638.50 million. Meanwhile, Indonesia recorded a trade surplus with Spain of USD 292.70 million during the same period. Meanwhile, in 2024, Indonesia's fisheries sector contributed USD 38.36 million to exports to the European Union, marking a 6.2% increase compared to 2023 figures. In 2024, Indonesia's leading fisheries commodities exported to the European Union included salmon, mackerel, fishmeal, crab, seaweed, tuna, skipjack, mackerel, bakalu, shrimp, surimi, and other processed fish products.
