North Kalimantan Ready to Become the Gateway for Halal Industry to Go Global

The Kaltara Sharia Festival (KashaFa) 2025 was held over two days starting on June 24, 2025, at the North Kalimantan Governor’s Office. It marked the peak of a series of sharia economic and financial activities since March and reaffirmed North Kalimantan’s strong commitment to becoming the gateway of the halal industry in the Indonesia-Malaysia border region. Carrying the theme “Inclusive Sharia Economy and Finance for Sustainable Growth in Kaltara,” the event was organized by Bank Indonesia (BI) North Kalimantan together with the Provincial Government through KDEKS, and supported by various strategic partners.

Governor Dr. H. Zainal A. Paliwang emphasized the importance of the sharia economy as a strategy for inclusive and sustainable regional growth. KashaFa 2025 recorded halal MSME transactions totaling IDR 2.6 billion, sharia financing reaching IDR 9.97 billion, and the issuance of 1,406 halal certificates. Around 60% of businesses adopted QRIS digital payments during the event. The region’s sharia literacy rate exceeded 70%, far above the national average of 42.84%. BI North Kalimantan’s Head, Hasiando G. Manik, called KashaFa a strategic platform to build a sharia ecosystem through literacy, financing, digitalization, and institutional strengthening. The festival featured halal MSME bazaars, business matching, national seminars, halal certification training, and children’s competitions—marking a key milestone in Kaltara’s path toward becoming a competitive halal hub.
