Chair of the Budget Committee (Banggar) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Said Abdullah, stated that the government needs to achieve economic growth of 5.2% to 5.3% to ensure the 2026 State Budget (APBN) is healthy and sustainable. He made the statement while responding to media questions at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (24 June), in connection with the upcoming discussions between the DPR and the government on the 2026 Draft State Budget (RAPBN). Said, a legislator from the PDI-P faction, emphasized that the 2026 APBN must be able to address future global uncertainties, which have pushed many countries to adopt protective measures. He noted that current global trade flows have deteriorated significantly, a consequence he attributed to past policies of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Said revealed that discussions on the 2026 RAPBN would officially begin on 1 July 2025, starting with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani delivering the government's response to party factions in a plenary session. He roughly estimated the 2026 APBN to reach around IDR 3,800 trillion if the targeted growth of 5.2%–5.3% is achieved. Of this total, about 20%—or approximately IDR 760 trillion—would be allocated to fund free education up to junior high school (SMP) level in both public and private schools, in line with a Constitutional Court decision. This allocation, he added, will be supported through central and regional budgets, including the education endowment fund, to ensure nationwide implementation.
