The Vice Governor of Southeast Sulawesi, Hugua, officially launched the export of 98 tons of fisheries products valued at over IDR 28 billion (approx. USD 1.7 million) to the United States, Thailand, and other international markets. The ceremony, held at Kendari Container Terminal, highlighted the region’s growing presence in global seafood trade. The shipment included 42 tons of frozen octopus and 10 tons of frozen supplies worth IDR 6.1 billion, along with 45 tons of crab meat valued at IDR 21 billion, distributed across five container boxes for international delivery.
In his remarks, Vice Governor Hugua emphasized that the export marks a strategic milestone for Southeast Sulawesi’s marine and fisheries development. He underscored the commitment to certified, sustainable products that not only meet international standards but also protect marine ecosystems and support local fishers and entrepreneurs. By building global consumer trust, he believes this initiative opens the door to larger, higher-value exports. Echoing this, Ishartini from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries praised the achievement, noting the high quality required to access markets like the U.S. Acting Head of the Southeast Sulawesi Fisheries Department, Sri Resqina, added that this effort is the beginning of building a sustainable and high-quality export base from eastern Indonesia. The event was attended by key regional leaders and 11 exporting companies, marking a collaborative push toward long-term global competitiveness.
