Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin conducted a working visit to South Papua Province. He was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Forestry, Minister of Public Works (PU), Presidential Special Staff for Infrastructure, Chief of General Staff (Kasum) TNI, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army (Wakasad), Head of Defense Facilities Agency (Kabaranahan) Kemhan, President Director of Agrinas Palma, and Governor of South Papua. The group together directly reviewed the Boven Digoel Regency area as part of the visit agenda. The visit was made to the location of the planned development of a palm oil-based biodiesel program in Boven Digoel Regency as part of the government's strategy in strengthening national energy security and reducing dependence on fuel imports, especially diesel. This step is expected to reduce dependence on energy supplies from abroad.
The energy security program is an initiative initiated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. Through this review activity, the government emphasized its commitment to gradually build national energy independence, while strengthening state sovereignty from a security and economic perspective. Cross-sector synergy—covering defense, agriculture, forestry, and energy—is the main foundation in realizing sustainable energy sovereignty and supporting national stability as a whole.Using a helicopter from Tanah Merah Airport, the Minister of Defense continued his air journey to the planned palm oil development area in Boven Digoel Regency. Upon arrival at the location, the activity was continued with an aerial review covering the planned palm oil plantation development area. During the aerial review, the Minister of Defense also took the time to conduct aerial observations of the area that is the territory of the 803 Territorial Development Battalion.
This review activity also shows the government's serious attention to strategic development in Papua. One of the main focuses of the visit was efforts to strengthen the national energy sector.
