Deputy Minister of Cooperatives: Cooperatives Bill is Momentum to Strengthen the Role of Cooperatives as Pillars of the National Economy

The Deputy Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Wamenkop UKM), Afriansyah Noor, emphasized that the Cooperative Bill (RUU Perkoperasian) serves as a key momentum to strengthen the role of cooperatives as a pillar of Indonesia’s national economy. Speaking at the National Cooperative Meeting (Rakernas) held by the Indonesian Cooperative Council (Dekopin), he stated that the bill is a progressive step to modernize and align cooperative regulations with current economic dynamics. This legislative effort aims to improve governance, transparency, and competitiveness within cooperatives, making them more adaptive and relevant in today's market-driven economy. The bill is also expected to empower cooperatives in becoming more innovative and contributing significantly to national development.

Afriansyah also highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting cooperatives through various programs, such as access to financing, digital transformation, and institutional strengthening. These initiatives are aligned with President Joko Widodo’s direction to enhance the productivity and scale of MSMEs and cooperatives. Moreover, the Rakernas serve as a platform for synergy between government institutions and cooperative stakeholders to realize the vision of inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The Deputy Minister hopes that the revised Cooperative Law will not only modernize the sector but also inspire a spirit of collective progress and fairness, in line with the cooperative principles of mutual benefit and democratic management.
