IMIP Supports the Transformation of a Resilient and Sustainable Nickel Industry

PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) is firmly committed to supporting the transformation of Indonesia’s nickel industry toward a more resilient and sustainable future. As a strategic industrial ecosystem, IMIP aims to lead the shift from raw material dependence to a value-added, independent, green, and globally competitive nickel industry. With over 30 integrated tenants covering the full supply chain—from nickel ore processing to stainless steel, carbon steel, and electric vehicle battery materials—IMIP plays a central role in national industrialization. The zone contributes significantly to exports, has created 85,000 jobs, and drives development in eastern Indonesia.

Facing challenges such as fluctuating global nickel prices in 2024–2025, IMIP has proactively implemented mitigation strategies to ensure stability and protect workers. It promotes Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across its operations, encouraging energy efficiency, waste management, and corporate social responsibility. Current initiatives include the use of 80 electric dump trucks and 72 electric wheel loaders, along with the development of a 200MW solar power plant. Previously, IMIP and Tsingshan Group installed 2,190 solar panels generating over 1.27MW to support office operations. IMIP also emphasizes collaboration with governments, labor unions, local communities, and industry players to maintain a stable and inclusive industrial zone. Looking ahead, IMIP seeks to be not only a production hub but also a national model for fair, inclusive, and sustainable industrial development.
