Central Java Deputy Speaker Heri Pudyatmoko views marine tourism as a strategic opportunity to uplift coastal communities and reduce regional development disparities. With stunning coastlines in areas like Jepara, Rembang, and Cilacap, he believes these regions can become leading tourism hubs, offering both natural beauty and economic potential. “Marine tourism is more than a leisure activity — it’s a gateway to economic empowerment,” Heri said.
He emphasized that coastal residents should be central players in this development, not just passive observers. Training, financial support, and mentoring are crucial to enable locals to take roles as guides, seafood vendors, or boat operators. To achieve this, Heri called for integrated collaboration between the Tourism and Marine Affairs departments to create programs that connect tourism, fisheries, and environmental preservation. He also underlined the importance of infrastructure and creative promotion for destinations like Karimunjawa and Kartini Beach to compete nationally and internationally. Heri hopes that with thoughtful packaging and sustainable development, Central Java’s marine tourism can go global while enhancing local prosperity and preserving marine ecosystems.
