Central Java Provincial Secretary, Sumarno, encouraged the pharmaceutical industry in the region to develop herbal medicines—not only for curing illness but also for maintaining public health. “It’s better to keep people healthy than to wait until they get sick,” he said during the inauguration of PT Erlangga Edi Laboratories’ (Erela) new factory in Salatiga on Saturday (14/6/2025). He also emphasized the importance of developing preventive products using local herbal ingredients rooted in Central Java’s cultural heritage.
Sumarno appreciated PT Erela’s investment in its new production facility, hoping it would boost efficiency, reduce product prices, and maintain quality. He also urged the integration of herbal research and the importance of halal certification for pharmaceutical products to support the sharia economy and strengthen the province's industry. PT Erela President Director Lily Handojo stated that the new facility reflects the company’s vision to deliver high-quality, affordable medicines and to compete in both domestic and international markets. She added that the company is beginning to focus on herbal products, and the new factory will support more innovative and efficient production. The event was also attended by Salatiga Mayor Robby Hernawan and local officials.
