The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is pushing for the designation of National Vital Industrial Objects (OVNI) to strengthen investment security and enhance industrial competitiveness. “OVNI designation provides standardized security assurance, which is crucial for a conducive investment climate and to support national industrial growth—vital to achieving the 8% economic growth target for 2025–2029,” said Tri Supondy, Director General of Industrial Resilience, Regional and International Access. Of 170 licensed industrial zones, only 31 currently have OVNI status. Tri emphasized that OVNI helps prevent security disruptions such as conflicts over valuable industrial waste and external interference.
In addition to improving safety, OVNI strengthens internal security systems and community relations. Kemenperin has conducted outreach in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten, including presenting an OVNI decree to PT Jababeka Tbk, which has received the status three times. PT Jababeka Infrastructure CEO Didik Purbadi noted that social harmony is also key. Industry Association (HKI) Chairman Sanny Iskandar welcomed OVNI as legal assurance and government support. Kadin Vice Chair Akhmad Maruf Maulana highlighted how security issues often cause costly disruptions. OVNI allows police protection, fostering collaboration between industry and law enforcement. Applications are submitted through SIINas; non-compliance may lead to sanctions. Kemenperin hopes more industrial zones will apply to ensure a secure and competitive industrial environment.
