The food and beverage (F\&B) industry continues to be one of Indonesia’s most strategic sectors, significantly contributing to national economic growth. Its expansion is fueled by abundant natural resources and a consistently rising domestic demand. In the first quarter of 2025, the industry recorded a GDP growth of 6.04%, outperforming both the non-oil and gas manufacturing sector (4.31%) and the national GDP (4.87%). Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza shared this during the inauguration of PT PepsiCo Indonesia’s first factory and the launch of Lay’s, Cheetos, and Doritos at the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) in Cikarang, West Java. From January to March 2025, the F\&B sector contributed 41.15% to the non-oil and gas manufacturing GDP and achieved exports worth USD 11.78 billion, accounting for 22.42% of total non-oil and gas industrial exports.
In terms of investment, the F\&B industry realized a total of USD 1.39 billion in early 2025, comprising USD 565 million in foreign direct investment and USD 825 million in domestic investment. Notably, PT PepsiCo Indonesia invested USD 200 million to establish its first local factory, which began operations in January 2025. The facility features three production lines with an installed capacity of 24,000 tons per year and currently employs nearly 400 workers. This investment strengthens Indonesia’s snack industry, promotes job creation, and supports import substitution. PepsiCo also partners with 200 potato farmers and 200 corn farmers in West and Central Java, supporting sustainable agriculture and local empowerment. The company is recognized for implementing environmentally friendly practices, including 100% recycled water and renewable electricity in its production. The Ministry of Industry and PepsiCo both see this as a long-term commitment that not only boosts national industry competitiveness but also aligns with Indonesia’s sustainability and economic development goals.
