The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is committed to accelerating the downstream processing of natural resources in Eastern Indonesia by enhancing industrial service delivery. According to Andi Rizaldi, Head of the Agency for Standardization and Industrial Services Policy (BSKJI), this region holds vast potential for manufacturing development, particularly in small and medium industries (IKM). For instance, Maluku has seen progress in essential oil production, non-timber forest products, and marine-based industries. Strengthening downstream industry, he added, plays a key role in boosting the domestic value of raw materials and contributes significantly to investment, exports, and employment.
To support this initiative, Kemenperin—through its unit BSPJI Ambon—has actively provided industrial services to businesses and local communities. Services offered include essential oil distillation equipment, chemical and microbiological testing labs, product certification, halal inspection, and industry consultations. In the first five months of 2025 alone, BSPJI Ambon delivered a wide range of testing and design services, showcasing its role in advancing industrial growth in the region. BSPJI Ambon Head, Sony Fitriajaya, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening its service center to support sustainable growth in manufacturing, IKM, and marine product processing. A recent visit by members of Commission VII of the House of Representatives also underlined expectations for BSPJI Ambon to help distribute industrial development more evenly across Eastern Indonesia, where only 16.3% of fisheries potential has been tapped. The visit concluded with a call for deeper collaboration to ensure inclusive and sustainable industrial progress in the region.
