Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives and also Chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) and Deputy Chairman of the Golkar Party Bambang Soesatyo said that the vehicle modification industry in Indonesia has continued to increase in recent years. In the past, vehicle modification was often considered merely a hobby for young people or a mere aesthetic show-off. However, currently the vehicle modification industry has developed into an economic sector that has the potential to absorb labor, drive MSMEs, and even form a unique creative economic ecosystem. "Vehicle modification is more than just changing the appearance or performance of a car, but also a representation of the creativity of the nation's children that can boost the economy. The challenge now is how to turn this great potential into a sustainable reality, with innovation, collaboration, and the right policy support," said Bamsoet while attending the 'Panca Fest 2025' Motorcycle Modification Contest in Jakarta, Sunday (6/15/25).
This 20th Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives explained that vehicle modification in Indonesia covers various aspects. Starting from changes in exterior appearance, increasing engine performance, to interior modifications. Currently, there are around 400,000 automotive MSMEs covering car workshops, motorcycle workshops, body repairs, and spare part shops. This sector contributes greatly to the value of automotive service trade, reaching around IDR 325 trillion per year. Data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) shows that the vehicle modification market continues to grow along with the increasing number of vehicle owners. In this case, the younger generation is the main driving force, where they not only want to have a functional vehicle, but also reflect their identity and lifestyle. "The development of the vehicle modification industry also opens up opportunities for suppliers and manufacturers of after-market components," said Bamsoet.
