In 2024, the Indonesia Statistics (BPS) recorded exports of water and non-alcoholic beverages reaching USD 164.21 million or IDR 2.6 trillion, representing a 34.36% increase compared to 2023 figures of USD 122.21 million or IDR 1.9 trillion. In terms of volume, exports of these products reached 323,550 tonnes, representing an annual increase of 27.95%. Senior Economist at the Indonesia Export Financing Agency (LPEI), Donda Sarah, analyses that over the coming years, the export trend for non-alcoholic beverages will continue to strengthen, in line with increasing demand from Indonesia's trading partners. Consequently, there are significant opportunities for innovation and market expansion. However, competition with other countries remains a challenge, though it is believed that Indonesian products can still compete in the global market.
Despite the growth in exports, Indonesia remains ranked 31st globally for mineral water exports and 45th for flavoured mineral water. This is due to limitations in technological mastery and innovation, which make domestic products less competitive compared to those from advanced countries such as Japan. During the initial four months of 2025, exports of water and non-alcoholic beverages totalled USD 77.47 million, with a volume of 143,260 tonnes. These values and volumes increased by 73.45% and 71.16%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2024. This growth was primarily driven by increased demand from the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste. LPEI is optimistic that this growth trend will continue in the coming years.
