PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) recorded a significant increase in container traffic in May 2025, reaching 133,841 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), a 13% rise from April’s 118,237 TEUs. This growth was driven primarily by international containers, which rose 11% from 114,955 TEUs to 127,873 TEUs. Domestic container traffic also saw a sharp 82% increase from 3,282 TEUs to 5,968 TEUs. Export traffic surged by 20.59% to 64,642 TEUs, while imports rose modestly by 3.06% to 63,231 TEUs. In May, exports slightly dominated international traffic at 51%, a reversal from April where imports led at 54%.
Cumulatively from January to May 2025, TPS handled a total of 632,567 TEUs, a 0.7% increase year-on-year. International containers contributed 603,880 TEUs, while domestic accounted for 28,687 TEUs. This compares to 593,535 TEUs (international) and 34,533 TEUs (domestic) in the same period last year. Ship visits also rose 9.4%, from 96 in April to 105 in May. TPS Corporate Secretary Erika Asih Palupi noted that this growth reflects strong business confidence in TPS services. Operationally, TPS surpassed national productivity standards, achieving 51 boxes/ship/hour versus the national benchmark of 48, and continues to dominate the international market with an 83% share at Tanjung Perak Port.
