The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government continues to advance its flagship Shrimp Estate program as a key initiative to strengthen aquaculture and boost regional income. Originally launched by former Governor H. Sugianto Sabran and now expanded by Governor H. Agustiar Sabran, the program focuses on the cultivation of vannamei shrimp in Sukamara Regency. During a recent site visit and harvest, Economic Affairs Assistant Herson B. Aden emphasized the need to optimize this aquaculture area, envisioning a shift from regional public service management (BLUD) to a region-owned enterprise (BUMD) model, transforming it into a profitable and scalable business venture. This shift reflects a broader commitment to sustainable coastal development and regional economic transformation.
The Shrimp Estate aligns with the vision of Governor Agustiar Sabran and Deputy Governor Edy Pratowo to increase local welfare by maximizing local natural resources and enhancing regional revenue (PAD). The program also supports national strategies for downstream industrialization in the fisheries sector. According to the Head of the Marine and Fisheries Department, Sri Widanarni, the estate has entered the shrimp farming phase and is managed by the Brackish and Marine Aquaculture Service Unit. With potential for both domestic and international markets, the initiative not only promises to raise regional income but also creates job opportunities for coastal communities. Moving forward, a thorough feasibility study is planned to evaluate transitioning the program into a commercial business under BUMD management, further cementing its role as an economic catalyst for Central Kalimantan.
