Bulukumba Seaweed Production Reaches 54 Thousand Tons in Quarter I, Optimistic to Exceed National Target

Seaweed production in Bulukumba Regency in the first quarter of this year recorded quite encouraging figures. It was recorded that 54,786.3 tons of seaweed were successfully harvested, consisting of 21,995.2 tons of Eucheuma cottonii and 32,791.1 tons of Eucheuma spinosum. With this initial achievement, Bulukumba Regency is optimistic that it can achieve and even exceed the national seaweed production target this year which is set at 220,500 tons. As a comparison, the production target for 2024 was only 196,000 tons, but it was successfully exceeded with a total production reaching 216,252.23 tons.

Head of the Aquaculture Division of the Bulukumba Regency Fisheries Service, Dani Susanto, S.Pi, said that this achievement cannot be separated from the various efforts and innovations made by the local government through the cultivation sector. "We continue to be committed to encouraging the productivity of cultivators through various strategies, such as training and socialization of good seaweed cultivation, providing rope assistance as a cultivation tool, updating superior seeds, and direct assistance from the technical team and extension workers in the field," explained Dani Susanto. He added that this success was also thanks to strong cooperation between the government, cultivators, and all stakeholders in the marine and fisheries sector. "With promising first quarter results and full support from all parties, Bulukumba Regency has a great opportunity to become one of the leading seaweed production centers in Indonesia," he concluded.
