Indonesia demonstrated strong commitment to sustainable ocean management at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF) held in Monaco, represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno on behalf of President Prabowo Subianto. BEFF, initiated by Prince Albert II of Monaco, ran alongside the UN Ocean Conference (UNOC) in Nice, France, and gathered global leaders such as Prince William and Presidents of Brazil, France, and Costa Rica. Arif conveyed Indonesia’s support for the event and emphasized the importance of global cooperation in advancing the blue economy. During the forum, Arif engaged in a bilateral meeting with Monaco’s Foreign Minister Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, discussing key areas such as coral reef conservation, marine biodiversity, mangrove protection, seaweed-based innovation, and digital-financial cooperation. He also announced Indonesia’s plan to host the Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) in Bali in June 2026, inviting international partners to participate.
Arif participated in two key panels at BEFF, addressing topics on ocean finance and governance. Prominent global figures, including UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen and the EIB Vice President, discussed actionable solutions to bridge the global ocean funding gap. The second panel emphasized the need for political leadership and innovative policy to boost sustainable investment in ocean-based economies. Indonesia’s participation in BEFF, supported by its embassies in Paris and Marseilles, reflects its proactive role in maritime diplomacy and its dedication to global efforts in protecting and sustainably using ocean resources.
