PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk and the Krakatau Steel Group have prepared over 500 hectares of land in the Krakatau Industrial Estate in Cilegon, Banten, to support strategic investments in the steel sector. This initiative is part of their collaboration with Delong Steel Group, the world’s 11th-largest and China’s 7th-largest steel producer, along with its subsidiary PT Dexin Steel Indonesia. Krakatau Steel President Director Akbar Djohan emphasized that the goal is not merely building a factory, but developing a globally competitive national steel ecosystem to meet the demands of Indonesia’s National Strategic Projects.
The cooperation began with a visit to China in May 2025 and was followed by Delong Steel’s site inspection in June. The core plan includes building an integrated steel plant with a 3 million ton/year capacity, expected to generate thousands of local jobs, boost industrial value-added, and strengthen trade performance. Krakatau Steel, through its subsidiary PT Krakatau Sarana Infrastruktur, is facilitating the land provision and sees the project as a gateway for technology transfer and green steel development. Akbar highlighted the vision to transform Cilegon into Southeast Asia’s benchmark for sustainable, advanced steel production.
