The Indonesian Ministry of Trade is launching a trade mission to Japan from June 9–13, 2025, aiming to boost exports and strengthen bilateral trade ties. Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri emphasized the strategic importance of deepening market access and expanding business networks between the two countries. Japan is Indonesia’s fourth-largest trading partner, with non-oil and gas exports rising 8.8% annually over the past five years. Despite a recent dip in export value, the mission will include 27 Indonesian companies from sectors such as renewable energy, home décor, food and beverage, and sustainable products, supported by a series of business forums and one-on-one meetings.
This mission also aligns with Indonesia’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, where national flagship products will be promoted with a sustainability theme. Meanwhile, Japan's economy shows signs of slowing, with household spending down and growth projected to remain modest. The Bank of Japan is expected to hold interest rates steady amid weak consumer demand. In this context, Indonesia’s proactive trade diplomacy offers timely potential to capture market share and strengthen partnerships, despite external uncertainties.
