Foreign Minister Sugiono and the Omani Ambassador Promote Trade and Tourism Cooperation Enhancement

On 4 June 2025, the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Sugiono, received a visiting diplomatic representative, the Omani Ambassador to Indonesia, Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed Salim Al Shanfari. Sugiono emphasised the urgency of strengthening cooperation and partnership between Indonesia and the Sultanate of Oman. During the meeting, Sugiono and Al Shanfari discussed concrete steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the sectors of trade, investment, and tourism. Sugiono emphasised the importance of enhancing the value and diversification of trade between Indonesia and Oman, including the need to strengthen business connections through the organisation of business forums and joint trade missions.

Within the investment field, Sugiono emphasised the exploration of strategic opportunities, notably in the domains of new and renewable energy, as well as mining. In addition, tourism was identified as a potential area for growth, with a growing interest among Omani citizens to visit various tourist destinations in Indonesia. Al Shanfari hopes that more Indonesian tourists will visit Oman. Furthermore, Sugiono and Al Shanfari agreed to promote high-level visits and continue preparations for the 2nd Indonesia-Oman Political Consultation. This bilateral meeting is part of Indonesia's commitment to strengthening diplomatic networks with various partner countries, particularly in the Middle East, as well as an active contribution to peace and stability in the Middle East region. Since 1978, Indonesia and Oman have maintained diplomatic relations. In 2024, Oman is Indonesia's third-largest trading partner and the fourth-largest source of foreign tourists from the Middle East region.
