Indonesian Guitars Attract Japanese Market, Export Reaches USD 2.4 Million in 2024

Indonesian-made guitars captivated attention at Asia’s largest musical instrument exhibition, Sound Messe Osaka 2025. Held in Osaka, Japan, the event showcased six Indonesian brands, including Batiksoul Guitar and Genta Guitar, and drew interest from over 15 potential buyers—some from major Japanese companies. With trial orders valued at USD 202,950, this event highlighted Indonesia’s growing reputation for quality craftsmanship. Supported by the Ministry of Trade, Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Osaka, and the Indonesian Consulate in Osaka, the national pavilion reflected a strategic push to elevate the country's musical instrument exports globally.

In 2024, Indonesia became the world’s fourth-largest musical instrument exporter, with exports totaling USD 613.96 million. Specifically for acoustic guitars, Indonesia was Japan’s fourth-largest supplier, with exports worth USD 2.4 million—holding 7.2% of Japan's market. This strong performance, backed by the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA), signals growing opportunities for local manufacturers. Indonesian officials and industry representatives view continued participation in events like Sound Messe as key to strengthening global visibility and market access. The blending of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation in design and materials allows Indonesian guitars to compete with top international brands, building a strong, positive image in premium markets.
