The Tugu Class A Brackish and Marine Fish Cultivation Center (BBIAPL) in Central Java successfully produced 3.1 tons of vannamei shrimp at the Wijayakusuma Industrial Zone (KIW) in Semarang City. Central Java’s Regional Secretary, Sumarno, attended the first vannamei shrimp harvest at KIW and praised the results, highlighting the high quality of the shrimp despite the location being in the middle of an industrial area. This harvest demonstrates the success of sustainable aquaculture technology implemented by the Central Java Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP).
The shrimp were raised in three ponds within KIW, producing a total biomass of 3.1 tons after 76 days. With current market prices around IDR 60,000 to 65,000 per kilogram, the estimated revenue from this harvest reached IDR 96 million, yielding a net profit of approximately IDR 28.4 million after operational costs. The government supports this initiative by facilitating and empowering local fishermen and farmers toward independent business. The Tugu unit focuses on high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pond systems and strict water quality control to ensure optimal shrimp cultivation.
