The Ministry of Industry is committed to advancing Indonesia’s food and beverage (F\&B) industry to be more innovative and competitive, recognizing its vital role in supporting sustainable national economic growth. As a backbone of the non-oil and gas manufacturing sector, the F\&B industry contributed 40.17% to the sector’s GDP and grew by 5.82% in Q3 2024—outpacing the national GDP growth of 4.95%. This performance was driven by increasing domestic demand, export activity, and investment, which reached IDR 30.23 trillion, up 28% year-on-year. The industry also provides employment to 3.6 million people through 1.7 million SMEs, making it a significant pillar of the agro-industrial workforce, which absorbed 9.37 million workers throughout 2024.
To strengthen global competitiveness, the ministry promotes international partnerships for technology transfer, product quality enhancement, and export expansion. A notable example is the collaboration between PT Niramas Pandaan Sejahtera (NPS), a subsidiary of INACO producer PT Niramas Utama, and Japan’s Tarami Corporation, the largest fruit jelly manufacturer in Japan. Supported by Kawasho Foods Corporation as the raw material partner, the collaboration introduced halal-certified fruit jelly under the Japan Quality Line. This marks a milestone, as halal-certified products were previously unavailable in Japan. The partnership opens access to untapped global markets and reflects growing demand for premium halal products. Achieved after two years of overcoming regulatory and technical challenges, the initiative demonstrates the value of cross-border collaboration. Minister Agus Gumiwang commended the partnership as a strategic step to elevate Indonesia’s image in global markets and to advance the country toward becoming the world’s leading halal producer, in line with national economic growth targets of 8%.
