Kretek 2 Bridge, a 556-metre-long structure located on the Southern Cross-Island Highway in Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta, is a vital component in connecting Parangtritis and Tirtohargo, and reducing the travel distance by approximately 5 kilometres. This bridge, now operational for two years, features a seismic-resistant design. This earthquake-resistant feature employs advanced Lead Rubber Bearing technology. Alongside this feature, a variety of facilities are available, including the Edupark Nadiloka, a jogging track, pedestrian pathways and the Opak Fault Monument. Additionally, in the Girisubo area, the first rest area in DIY from the east has been built, incorporating the Javanese philosophical concepts of Cakra Manggilingan and Swanayasa. With the construction of this bridge, it is anticipated that local economic growth will be significantly enhanced due to the introduction of new access points and the revitalisation of the tourism sector in this area, as evidenced by the development of facilities in this area.
This project, led by the Head of the Central Java-Special Region of Yogyakarta National Road Construction Office, Satrio Sugeng Prayitno, has a primary focus on ensuring the successful completion and readiness for functional testing of the 600-metre-long Kretek 2 bridge by the end of January 2023. It is also intended to be prepared as an alternative route for the 2023 Eid al-Fitr holiday. The construction cost of the Kretek 2 Bridge amounts to IDR 364 billion, a joint operation between PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) and PT Hutama Karya (Persero), and was officially inaugurated on 2 June 2023 by Joko Widodo, the 7th President of Indonesia.
