Optimizing Regional Economic Development Potential to Support the Achievement of National Economic Growth

The government is pursuing accelerated national economic growth, targeting up to 8% through the optimization of key sectors such as investment, industry, digitalization, and infrastructure. These efforts aim to create a broad multiplier effect, strengthen national competitiveness, and improve public welfare. To support this, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs is promoting region-based development by aligning programs with each region’s unique potential. On May 21, Expert Staff for Regional Development Haryo Limanseto led a coordination meeting involving all deputy units to explore regional policy strategies.

Haryo highlighted common regional challenges, including bureaucratic inefficiencies, low competitiveness, and the need to ensure security for investors. Inputs from deputies included boosting tourism productivity, advancing digitalization, expanding manufacturing, enhancing logistics infrastructure, and developing human resources to improve employment. Regional development is also being strengthened through sub-regional cooperation such as IMT-GT and BIMP-EAGA, which involve local leaders in addressing regional constraints and unlocking potential. Additionally, inflation control efforts are ongoing through coordination between central and regional teams (TPIP and TPID), with each region encouraged to develop an inflation roadmap. Tourism is a key focus moving forward, with initiatives to improve destination quality, build local talent, and enhance connectivity for better access. “We will continue to optimize programs under the Coordinating Ministry to match regional strengths, especially in tourism,” Haryo concluded.
