Central Bangka’s Economic Shift: Embracing a Sustainable and Inclusive Future

The Central Bangka Regency government in the Bangka Belitung Islands is set to diversify its economy over the next five years, aiming to reduce the region's dependence on tin mining. According to Deputy Regent Efrianda, while tin has long driven economic growth, it has also been a source of social and legal problems, prompting a call for new economic strategies. Recognizing the deep-rooted nature of tin in the community's way of life, he emphasized that the transition won't be easy, but with strong commitment and strategic programs, change is possible.

The local government is taking concrete steps to develop other high-potential sectors, including horticultural farming, aquaculture, and eco-cultural tourism. These initiatives aim not only to protect the environment but also to create stable livelihoods and promote inclusive development. Efrianda expressed optimism about the future, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the government, local communities, and the private sector. To further this vision, Central Bangka has partnered with several foreign investors, focusing on downstream industries and agriculture, beyond traditional mining. With the right approach, these partnerships are expected to act as a catalyst in transforming the region’s economy into one that is more diverse, sustainable, and resilient.
