Big investment news from Japan: GreenBank Corporation is injecting IDR 16.3 trillion (USD 1 billion) into a renewable energy project in Batam, strengthening Indonesia’s position as a hub for green investment. In partnership with Wiraraja Strategic, the Japanese firm signed a Joint Venture Agreement for the Wiraraja Green Renewable Energy & Smart Eco Industrial Park, a National Strategic Project (PSN) located in Galang Island, Batam. The signing took place during the “Regional Infrastructure Investment Opportunities for Economic Transformation” business forum at the Indonesia Pavilion, World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
Akhmad Ma’ruf Maulana, President Director of Wiraraja Indonesia, emphasized the strong support from Bappenas, local government, and multiple ministries in realizing this green industrial zone. He noted the investment reflects deep investor confidence in Indonesia’s development direction, further solidified by President Prabowo Subianto’s inclusion of the project in the 2025–2030 RPJMN. The project also aligns with Indonesia’s long-term economic goals, as echoed by Indonesian officials in Osaka, who called for a shift toward knowledge- and innovation-based industries. With Kepri’s strategic Free Trade Zone status and a 2024 investment realization of IDR 47.26 trillion, the region continues to offer vast opportunities in energy, digital, and industrial sectors.
