Coconut Sector Experiencing Significant Growth, and This UMKM Initiating First Exports to China

On 21 May 2025, Sampit Customs and the Ministry of Finance One Sampit (KPP Pratama Sampit and KPPN Type A2 Sampit) delivered the inaugural independent export of a container of coconut fruit owned by micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (UMKM) in East Kotawaringin to Yangpu, China, via MTP 03 Port III Bagendang, East Kotawaringin. These exports are expected to boost the incomes of coconut farmers and provide valuable inspiration to business actors, including other UMKM, to develop their markets abroad. As a result, this measure will be beneficial to the national economy, particularly in East Kotawaringin Regency.

Prior to the export release, a cross-sectoral coordination meeting was held, facilitated by the Pelindo Sampit branch. The primary issue addressed was the availability of coconuts in the country, to maintain the supply chain and ensure the continuation of coconut exports from Sampit. In order to maintain the supply chain for coconut commodities, it is vital to collaborate and create synergy. Such efforts should focus on innovation in agriculture, securing supplies from other regions, and assistance in replanting coconut trees. All of these measures are necessary to ensure the sustainability of the coconut supply for farmers. Therefore, cross-sector synergy and collaboration are also vital to the realisation of this export, from assisting the licensing process, fulfilling international quality standards, ensuring supply chain availability, to the process of shipping and exporting goods to the destination country.
