A total of two containers measuring 20 and 40 feet with a total load of 48,612 pairs of work gloves worth USD 123.10 thousand or around IDR1.97 billion were exported to the United States (US). The export of gloves produced by PT Sport Glove Indonesia (SGI) was the first to the US and was released directly by the Minister of Trade Budi Santoso in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Friday, May 23rd, 2025. "The success of Sleman gloves in penetrating the US market has driven the momentum of Indonesian exports amidst US tariff policies. What is being exported this time is a premium product for industry and public works," he said, in an official statement from the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag). The gloves combine modern textile technology with local expertise, reflecting the high competitiveness of the national industry.
The Ministry of Trade will support competitive and export-oriented products such as those produced by PT. SGI. This export shows the ability of Indonesian industry to meet global standards. Trade Minister Busan is optimistic that the US market prospects will continue to be promising. Furthermore, Busan said, in an effort to expand the market, his party is also conducting various trade negotiations with partner countries. One of them is the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA) which has been completed and is ready to be signed. Trade Minister Busan hopes that PT SGI can see opportunities for market access to Canada through the implementation of this agreement later. Indonesia is ranked 12th in the world as an exporter of work gloves with an export value reaching USD 112.40 million in 2024. In the first quarter of 2025, the export value of this product reached USD 24.40 million.
