The Center for Standardization and Agro Industry Services (BBSPJIA) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has achieved international accreditation as a reference material producer (PBA), strengthening its position as an institution that guarantees the accuracy of laboratory test results for agro commodities. "Reference materials are like benchmarks in laboratory testing. If there are no definite standards, test results can vary between laboratories. This is where the existence of PBA is important," said the Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry, Andi Rizaldi in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday. He explained that PBA is an institution that has the competence to produce certified reference materials according to the international standard SNI ISO 17034:2016. These reference materials are used by laboratories as comparative standards to ensure accurate, consistent, and accountable test results. Without standardized reference materials, laboratory test results can vary and risk not being recognized nationally or globally.
"With the availability of domestic reference materials, the industry no longer needs to import reference materials from abroad which are expensive and have long delivery times. This can reduce production costs, speed up the laboratory testing process, and increase the operational efficiency of business actors," he said. The economic impact of PBA is not only felt by large industry players, but also testing laboratories, MSMEs, and the export-import sector that requires verified test results to meet national and international standards. This is an important milestone in the development of a national standardization system that is relevant to the needs of the domestic food industry, especially in ensuring the quality and safety of agro-industry-based products that dominate the Indonesian manufacturing sector.
