The Ministry of Trade and HIMKI Launch IFEX 2026 to Boost Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Exports

On 21 May 2025, the Ministry of Trade, in collaboration with the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI), launched the Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2026 in Jakarta. IFEX 2026 is scheduled to take place from 5-8 March 2026 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City in Tangerang, Banten, signifying a tangible commitment to fostering collaboration between the government and industry stakeholders in promoting the expansion of national non-oil and gas exports. Indonesia is poised to emerge as a prominent competitor in the global furniture and handicrafts market. With its abundance of natural materials and reputation for producing high-quality furniture, Indonesia is a major player in the global market. Its production capabilities excel in aesthetics and functionality, making Indonesian furniture highly competitive. The application of sustainability principles in the furniture and handicraft business process in Indonesia adds value to Indonesian products in the international market. However, Indonesia needs to boost its furniture and handicraft exports as well as face the US tariff policy.

From January to March 2025, Indonesia's exports of furniture and handicrafts reached USD 644.83 million, marking a 0.85% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The main export destinations were the United States, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, and France. The Ministry of Trade is encouraging Indonesian businesses, including micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM), to export furniture and handicrafts through various programmes. These include business matching initiatives, the Indonesia Design Development Centre (IDDC), the Designers Dispatch Service (DDS), the Local Business Export Coaching (LBEC) training programme in collaboration with HIMKI, and the 40th Trade Expo Indonesia exhibition, which will take place from 15 to 19 October 2025. These programmes are expected to make Indonesian furniture products more competitive in the global market, expand their promotional reach and attract international buyers.
