Central Java has been designated as one of 15 priority provinces for creative industry development under President Prabowo Subianto’s five-year national plan (RPJMN). During a visit to SMK Raden Umar Said (RUS) in Kudus, Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized the region's strong potential in the animation sector. He acknowledged the global opportunities for Indonesian animation, while also noting the need for sustainable development and improved access to the industry for local talent. The ministry is actively working to bridge this gap through strategic collaboration and orchestration within the sector.
Minister Riefky highlighted the success of local animated films like Si Juki (2017) and the recent hit Jumbo, which has drawn nearly 10 million viewers and is set to premiere in 17 countries. This global recognition has attracted international industry players seeking partnerships with Indonesian animation studios. He praised SMK RUS for producing industry-ready graduates and thanked private sector partners for supporting students' transition into the professional world. Local authorities, including Kudus Regent Sam’ani Intakoris, also expressed appreciation for the school's creative achievements and signaled plans to recruit graduates into government roles. SMK RUS itself is expanding its ambitions, aiming to produce serialized animation and long-term animated film projects. With strong educational support, government collaboration, and growing global demand, Central Java's creative industry, particularly in animation, is poised for significant growth and international impact.
