The Majalengka Regency Government is proposing a revision to its Spatial Planning Regulation (RTRW) to support industrial growth by designating 8,000 hectares in the northern region of Majalengka as an official industrial zone. Regent Eman Suherman emphasized the importance of formalizing this area, where industries have already begun to develop, to ensure they operate within a legally recognized industrial zone. This move aims to provide legal certainty for existing and future investors, streamline industrial activities, and align development with long-term spatial plans. The revised plan will also allow investors to join the designated area without needing to meet the standalone minimum requirement of 50 hectares for an independent industrial zone.
Eman noted that many industries had previously emerged without clear direction, driven only by cheap land and investor interest, which often led to legal and spatial conflicts. To address this, the local government is updating both the RTRW and the more detailed RDTR (Detailed Spatial Plan), ensuring all developments comply with proper zoning. Existing and planned industrial zones include the Kertajati Industrial Estate Majalengka (KIEM), a 374-hectare site in Kertajati-Jatitujuh, and an area under development in Kertajati-Kadipaten. Other scattered industrial activities in areas like Jatiwangi, Sumberjaya, Ligung, Dawuan, and Kasokandel are also being brought under legal protection to safeguard businesses from future regulatory issues.
