On 19 May 2025, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto accompanied Indonesian President Prabowo on a state visit to Bangkok, Thailand, and was officially welcomed by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra at the Government House of Thailand. The series of activities continued with the 1st Leaders' Consultation meeting, in which both leaders agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation in various important sectors, including defence, trade, regional and global issues. Within the economic sector, Indonesia and Thailand are committed to increasing bilateral trade, with current figures standing at around USD 18 billion. Both countries also encourage cooperation in the halal industry, digital economy and aviation technology.
In a joint press statement, President Prabowo said that both countries are committed to organising the First Joint Trade Commission in the near future. He also said that Thailand and Indonesia will enhance cooperation between Thai investment management institutions and Indonesia's investment management agency, Danantara. Thailand has expressed its willingness to host the inaugural Joint Trade Commission meeting to explore opportunities to enhance trade relations between the two countries. Furthermore, investment agencies and the private sector are encouraged to explore additional opportunities for cooperation.
