President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra have agreed to establish a collaborative partnership in developing the halal industry between Indonesia and Thailand. President Prabowo emphasized that cooperation in halal industry development and standardization could significantly enhance trade value between the two nations, which currently stands at USD 18 billion. He also expressed interest in advancing digital economic cooperation, particularly in fintech, e-commerce, and infrastructure, while committing to the launch of the First Joint Trade Commission soon.
Halal industry collaboration was a key topic during the bilateral meeting at the Government House in Bangkok, given Thailand’s longstanding halal certification authority established in 1948. PM Paetongtarn highlighted that halal industry cooperation falls within the broader scope of food security, which also includes trade in agricultural products. President Prabowo echoed this by expressing intentions to strengthen food supply chains and form joint ventures in food storage and management. Additionally, both leaders agreed to revive the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum, with Indonesia inviting Thai entities to invest in its energy sector. The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from both governments.
