Indonesian Minister of Transmigration Iftitah Sulaiman met with Yosep Falentinus Delasalle Kebo, the Regent of North Central Timor (TTU), to discuss strategic plans for developing a local resource-based economy in the region, focusing on salt production and tourism. During the meeting, Yosep highlighted key economic potentials in TTU, especially the Ponu Transmigration Area, the largest in the district, and coastal areas rich in marine and fishery resources.
Yosep emphasized that Ponu holds strategic value and could be developed into a new economic growth center in the border region. Minister Iftitah welcomed the proposal, stressing that transmigration has shifted toward a welfare-oriented model, aiming not just to relocate people but to develop sustainable and self-reliant communities. The Ministry is committed to supporting local governments through basic infrastructure, economic empowerment, and investment in productive sectors. Both parties agreed to follow up with a joint action plan, including potential mapping and regulatory and technical support.
