The Ministry of Transmigration is allocating 10,000 hectares in East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), for a pilot cattle ranching project in partnership with Brazilian investors. This initiative, announced by Minister Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, aims to strengthen food security and enhance local welfare through an integrated livestock ecosystem. Unlike previous models, the new transmigration approach promotes collective land ownership, managed as community corporate assets under an inclusive business scheme, allowing locals to benefit directly via profit-sharing with investors.
The pilot will focus on breeding 5,000 female beef cattle, backed by Brazil’s Asia Beef and the Indonesia-Brazil Petroleum Consortium. From the Ministry’s 3.1 million hectares of HPL (Transmigration Land Management Rights), over 525,000 hectares are designated for national livestock development. Deputy Minister of Investment Todotua Pasaribu added that this project will also support national programs like the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) initiative and reduce reliance on imported meat and dairy. Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Agung Suganda emphasized that Brazil's success in livestock management offers a model Indonesia can adopt holistically. The goal is to create a sustainable and fair collaboration that meets national demand while empowering communities through co-ownership and economic participation.
