The value of mineral fuel imports to North Sumatra increased in March 2025. According to the North Sumatra Central Statistics Agency (BPS), imports of this commodity reached USD 68.7 million, up from USD 61.8 million in February 2025. Mineral fuels accounted for 11.17% of total imports in March, making it the largest import category that month, said BPS Head Asim Saputra.
However, compared to January–March 2024, mineral fuel imports fell by 25.9% to USD 206 million in the same period of 2025 from USD 278 million the previous year. Meanwhile, total imports to North Sumatra rose 22.75% in March 2025 to USD 444.7 million from USD 362.3 million in February. China was the largest source of imports with USD 96.06 million (21.6%), followed by Malaysia at USD 61.12 million (13.74%) and Singapore with USD 51.52 million (11.58%).
