The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), is positioning the national game industry as a new pillar of economic growth. Recognizing its high economic potential and role in shaping the country’s digital future, Minister Meutya Hafid stated that the gaming sector could contribute to accelerating economic growth to 8%. In a dialogue with the Indonesian Game Association (AGI), she emphasized the need for well-targeted policies developed through direct engagement with industry players.
To realize this goal, Kemkomdigi will launch Innovation Hubs in Jakarta, Medan, and Surabaya to support new game studios and talent development. A key event, the Indonesia Game Developer Exchange (IGDX), will take place this October in Bali as a national industry showcase with global reach. Although Indonesia’s gaming market is valued at IDR 30 trillion—the largest in Southeast Asia—local developers only capture 2.5% of that, or about IDR 750 billion annually. AGI Chair Shafiq Husein highlighted the urgent need for early-stage funding access. This year’s IGDX is expected to gain international spotlight with the first-time participation of Sony PlayStation and Steam.
