The Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) underscores the vital function of the oil and gas industry in delivering cost-effective energy solutions and propelling national economic growth. IPA President Carole J Gall stated that the upstream oil and gas industry is a key component in ensuring national energy security and plays an active role in supporting the ongoing energy transition worldwide, including in Indonesia. At present, Indonesia's oil production is stable at approximately 550,000 to 600,000 barrels per day. To reverse this trend, industry stakeholders are encouraged to increase exploration, conduct new well drilling, and adopt the latest technology and innovation. Gall emphasised that Indonesia has significant untapped oil and gas potential, with only about 16% of the total basins currently in production. Therefore, exploration must be a top priority for all stakeholders in this sector. Close collaboration between the industry and the government plays a pivotal role in fostering a conducive investment climate, characterised by regulatory certainty, fiscal stability, streamlined bureaucracy and expedited licensing processes.
IPA Convex 2025, the 49th event in the series, will provide a forum for oil and gas industry players to discuss these initiatives and strategic issues. The theme of the event is 'Delivering Growth with Energy Resilience in Lower Carbon Environment' and it will focus on three main areas: economic growth, energy resilience and low carbon environment. Based on these three key areas, several discussion panels will be organised under four main topics: accelerating oil and gas production for energy security, the potential of Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) as a driver of clean energy investment, optimising Indonesia's energy value chain, and improving the ease of doing business and efficiency of the licensing process. The event will feature over 80 speakers from both domestic and international backgrounds, specialising in the oil and gas sector. Furthermore, the event will feature the signing of new contracts, including cooperation agreements for new working areas, along with gas sales and purchase transactions.
